Comprehensive Eye Exams

Routine eye exams are important, regardless of your age or physical health. During a complete eye exam, your eye doctor will not only determine your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses, but will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes work together as a team and evaluate your eyes as an indicator of your overall health.

Infants should be examined at six months of age, and children should be checked annually. School screenings are not substitutes for optometric eye exams.

Eye Conditions And Eye Disease Management

Eye problems can range from mild to severe; some are chronic, while others may resolve on their own, never to appear again. The cardinal rule is if your eyes don't look good, feel good or see well, you should visit your eye doctor.

What is Dry Eye?

Dry eye syndrome, also called dry eye disease, is a chronic condition caused by either insufficient tears or an imbalance in one of the elements that make up your tears. Dry eye symptoms include dry, gritty, watery, itchy, red and irritated eyes.

Treatment for dry eye syndrome depends on the underlying cause, and a thorough dry eye evaluation with your optometrist will help determine the best treatment plan for you. Your optometrist may recommend eye drops for dry eyes or other methods of treatment.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is asymptomatic in the early stages and by the time you notice a vision problem, permanent damage would have occurred. Regular eye exams are needed to monitor eye health. Dr. Volk uses modern equipment and medications to diagnose and treat glaucoma. We will submit your prescription to your pharmacy.

Cataract Eye Care

Cataracts form as a natural part of the aging process. Over time, the proteins in the eye's natural lens begin to clump together, forming a cloudy mass called a cataract. Dr. Volk will diagnose and monitor your cataracts. If you require surgery, we will take care of all the surgical arrangements and coordinate post-op care with your surgeon.

Diabetic Eye Exams

Diabetes can cause bleeding in the back of the eye that can lead to blindness. This can happen suddenly with no symptoms or warnings to the patient. Diabetics need an annual dilated eye exam to check for and monitor diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Volk performs your annual exam and will send a report to your physician as needed.
